PIGEON FORGE, TN – The folks with Fee/Hedrick Family Entertainment Group are continuing to stick by the hurricane refugees from Louisiana.
David Fee, co-owner of the group, along with Shelley Layne, the group’s public relations director, and Comedy Barn Theater employee Billie Schnick, traveled to New York Sunday night to take some of the refugees to see family members there and help others recover physically and emotionally from last week’s hurricane.
Fee said some of his employees are heading to the Gulfport, Miss., area to deliver more supplies in the same truck they used to transport the refugees on Sunday. It is uncertain whether they’ll bring more people back to Sevier County.
John and Kenny Emilien, who came to Pigeon Forge Sunday along with 10 other refugees from New Orleans after being rescued by Fee and his associates, are in New York for the time being, but may decided to settle in Sevier County, Fee said.
Fee and his group are also making television appearances, appearing Monday on “Fox and Friends” and scheduled to appear again today.
Donna Creary, originally from Jamaica, is also on the trip, visiting distant relatives after losing her home in New Orleans. She has decided to stay in New York to live with relatives.
In the meantime Layne said the remaining refugees are staying in hotels in Pigeon Forge and will continue to receive help with employment and other living expenses to rebuild their lives.
“We want to make the world a better place for them to live and make a difference in their lives,” Fee said by telephone from New York. “We want to get them on their way and where they need to go. It doesn’t necessarily mean Pigeon Forge. We’re just trying to help them rebuild their lives.”
